Quaker Voice Lobbyist position – Help us provide a Quaker Voice in the Washington State Legislature

Quaker Voice on Washington Public Policy is looking for a part-time Legislative Advocate (lobbyist) for the 2024 legislative session in Olympia.  This position carries an annual salary of $15-18,000 depending on experience. The contract could begin as early as October 1, 2023, and continue through September 30, 2024. The contract would be renewable upon mutual agreement.

The position requires working closely with topic-specific Working Groups of dedicated volunteers to identify and advocate for important legislation in their areas of concern, particularly during the legislative session. The Legislative Advocate follows the progress of legislation, meets with legislators and their aides, shares information with relevant coalitions, and recommends action on the part of the Quaker Voice volunteers. The Legislative Advocate attends and testifies at legislative hearings; arranges and participates in meetings for Quaker Voice volunteers with legislators; and provides verbal and written reports to the Working Groups and the Board.  Working Groups currently include Criminal Justice, Economic Justice, and Environmental Stewardship.

We seek a dedicated person, with excellent verbal and writing skills and ability to work with many different groups, and in the manner of Quakers, to listen carefully and respectfully to others.  The Advocate would work with and represent Washington Quakers on matters of public policy in the state, to help fulfill our mission – “Bringing a Quaker voice, guided by testimonies and spiritual devotion, to the formation of public policy in Washington state”.
