Friends,
You know that the Washington budget conversation is very difficult this year. Current revenues are not projected to meet expenses over the next few years, but the state is required to balance its budget. Last week, you helped support a suite of bills designed to increase revenues and thereby minimize cuts in the state’s budget for education, healthcare, food, etc.
The Governor and legislature do not agree on the whole package. We are now asking you to tell them about your support for the place where they disagree most, the wealth tax. Here’s a sample email to send to the Governor, along with the leadership of the Senate Ways & Means Committee and House Appropriations Committees (listed below). The sample deliberately does *not* refer to a specific bill number, to allow for negotiation.
Sample email:
Dear [addressee(s)],
I support a wealth tax to help balance the Washington budget and increase tax equity in the state.

To reach the Governor, use this form.
Senate Ways & Means: Chair June Robinson, Vice Chair Derek Stanford, Vice Chair Yasmin Trudeau, Vice Chair Noel Frame (; ; ; )
House Appropriations: Chair Timm Ormsby, Vice Chair Mia Gregerson, Vice Chair Nicole Macri (; ; )
After we send our emails, we can hold them all in the Light and ask our fellow Quakers to do the same, as led.
