Announcing the Young Quaker Voices Program

Learn about the legislative processWork on issues important to Quakers:Criminal Justice / Environmental Stewardship / Economic JusticeEarn a small stipend The Young Quaker Voices program will bring young adults into contact with issues in the state legislature and encourage their active engagement in the legislative process in ways that reflect Quaker values. Young adults aged 16-30 are eligible for the program. They will be trained by Quaker Voice on the legislative process and participate in a QV working group, developing background materials and tracking legislation on an issue within the Quaker Voice scope. All work will be done remotely. Time commitment will be about 25-30 hours over the legislative session. Join us for Quaker Lobby Day (11th Annual!) ~ February 18, 2019

Friends have been a leading voice for social justice for several centuries. Our voice in state government is critically important to many marginalized people in our state - including tens of thousands of state residents who have been enmeshed in the criminal justice system or suffer economic hardship - and who cannot speak effectively for themselves. Quaker Voice on Washington Public Policy invites you to participate in our 11th Annual Quaker Lobby Day on Monday, Presidents’ Day, February 18th, 2019 - 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Olympia Friends Meeting House.  The day will begin at 9 am at the Olympia Friends Meetinghouse, 3201 Boston Harbor Road NE, Olympia WA 98506.  There we will discuss our priority issues, such as addressing support for current and former prisoners, orca recovery, and preserving the safety net for those with limited resources.  We will then go to the Capitol Building by noon to bring…

Dear neighbors,  I am excited about creating an opportunity for a bank that belongs to the people of WA State.  After months of hard work we have a bill that will create the Washington Investment Trust (WIT).  It is a simple concept that I believe will reap huge benefits for Washington State (I’ve attached a summary of the bill to this email).  Wenow have a bill in the House and a companion bill in the Senate.  H.B 1320 is posted online and you can see the full bill at this link.  The companion bill, S.B. 5238, is being sponsored by Sen.
